Accessibility Statement

Effective October 2, 2026

Our commitment to making Conferus usable by everyone, how it measures up to WCAG 2.1 AA, and how to tell us about a barrier.

Our commitment

Conferus is used by staff, volunteers and members of all abilities, often on a phone. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA across the staff dashboard, the member portal and every public page organizations publish with Conferus.

Conformance status

Conferus is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA: some parts do not yet fully conform. This is based on our own evaluation, documented in our Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT® 2.5, WCAG edition), which we provide on request.

What we do

  • Every page declares its language (English or Spanish), so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
  • A "Skip to main content" link and visible keyboard focus on every interactive element.
  • Form fields have labels, and errors are described in text, not only with color.
  • Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative icons are hidden from screen readers.
  • Tables use header cells, and check marks in comparisons have text equivalents.
  • Light and dark themes, and responsive layouts designed for phones as well as larger screens.

Known limitations

  • PDF documents Conferus generates (receipts, statements, reports) are not yet tagged for screen readers. The same information is available on screen and, for reports, as a spreadsheet.
  • The QR code check-in scanner needs a camera; staff can check guests in from the attendee list instead.
  • Some charts and complex tables on report pages may be hard to follow with a screen reader; the figures are also available as exports.
  • Payment pages are provided by Stripe and follow Stripe's own accessibility practices.
  • Content that organizations write themselves (event descriptions, emails, images) is their responsibility; we prompt for image descriptions where we can.

Feedback and help

If you run into a barrier in Conferus, or need information in a different format, email accessibility@conferus.net. Tell us the page and what happened; we aim to reply within 5 business days and, where we can't fix the problem quickly, to give you the information another way.

Assessment approach

We evaluate Conferus ourselves: keyboard-only and screen reader checks of key tasks, automated checks during development, and review against each WCAG 2.1 success criterion. We review this statement at least once a year and after major changes.
